Friends and Classmates,
For those of us that attended the July 10th 30 year reunion. we cannot overstate
how much fun we had, all 112 of us. Archie Neil, Henry Bergmann, Chris Lukasik
Bauman, Gary Sinagra, Don Bergmann, Carol Barrett and myself met for lunch
during a typical Chicago downpour on Friday, July 9th at Portillo's and the good
times continued for the next 48 hours. Our Addison Trail Tour made possible by
Lori Rosenwinkle Irvin reminded all 35 of us attending of how long ago those
conversations at the indoor picnic tables took place. Now the tables are gone!
Afterwards, we had a stellar turnout at Dave and Buster's. We had no idea what to expect, and I was pleasantly suprised to see 65 classmates exchanging hugs and stories and showing family photos. Even Professor James Lehnert drove in from Indiana to attend the event. We closed that place down and some of us migrated to The Hacienda, a fantastic Hispanic themed cantina and restaurant run by Richard Giannini.
The following evening was non stop conversation, laughter and dancing to music of our era provided by the experienced D.J. Ryan Peterson, son of rock musician and fellow classmate, Don Peterson. Everyone seemed to have the same desire of continuing the party all night long, so when the clock struck 12:00, off to the Hacienda in Addison we left.
After closing Richard's place down, the die hard classmates were off to Dapper's in Addison for a very late night breakfast and more laughter. Interestingly, we occupied 2 long tables that morning. The parallel tables stood west and east of each other. The western most table was dominated by those who lived on the west side of town and were often referred to as "The Corner Boys". The easternmost table was predominately occupied by those that lived on the east side of town from the area near Michigan Ave. and Fullerton Ave. or as they were commonly called "The M and F Gang". There were no "rumbles" to end the night, just good food, great company and lots of laughter.
My wife Carol, who happens to be 100% Italian, did notice
something she had not seen in years. The "Corner Boys" table was dominated by
predominately Italian classmates and one in particular, would rise from the
table every time a lady would excuse herself. He reminded all of us that some
time honored traditions bear respect as they are passed down through the
generations. Thank you Johnnie. Your parents would be proud!
Special thanks to all the reunion committee members who helped make this a
memorable evening and to our webmaster and photographer, Ed Jones, for the
fantastic pictures and website. Remember to call The Hat Lady, Jonette Hoff
Jones, for that retirement or vacation home in south Florida when the time
comes. Great job to all of you and thanks again to all that attended to make that
weekend a warm and memorable one. We live for these moments!
Don
P.S. See you in 5
